Australian mom shocked by 'Empire'

Australia's Bendigo Advertiser reports that a local mother is up in arms over a copy of Empire checked out of the Goldfields Library by her 12-year-old son. Although the article doesn't go into much detail about the offending material, the accompanying tiny image appears to be from the Mark Waid and Barry Kitson series.

According to the paper, "the book contains several graphic sexual images, as well as expletive language." The mother said she was with her son when he borrowed the comic, but wasn't aware of its content until later. Apparently, she expected better monitoring by the library:

"I expected some sort of censorship; they have a duty of care to screen what is on the shelves. ... I'm concerned there might be other books out there ... you just expect it to be safe."
